Therapeutic hypnosis and mind/body connections:

Issues such as finding support and help with Type II diabetes, dealing with life transitions such as aging, losing parents, chronic pain, and clearing out past challenges and blocks to growth can all be helped with hypnosis, EMDR, the Journey, and guided imagery or meditation. These issues can be dealt with in person in a tradition therapy setting or with an online personal coaching approach. Of the four approaches to change that are listed at the bottom of this page, number 4 includes adding a transcendental or sacred dimension to the change process. Spiritual coaching is the format that would include this dimension. The Journey work is a great tool for spiritual coaching.

For example, a client with Type II diabetes that comes for therapy could benefit from information about Type II diabetes. The client might already know that lowering their blood sugar is important. But the client might not know that lowering blood sugar is not just about what and how much food a she puts in their body. When the body is under stress there are chemical changes that occur that prevents the body from using insulin effectively. Working with stress reduction tips and techniques can be as important as learning how to eat a healthy diet in managing her diabetes.

Life transitions such as aging and losing parents change our concepts of who we are. Learning how to make the adjustments in our self concept can make the difference in being depressed and moving through life with a sense of passion. Living with a sense of passion and excitement are important in turning on the genes that keep your brain healthy.

If there are past issues that have been stored in the body that are unresolved, it can affect a person's ability to handle the life transitions that continue throughout life. Hypnosis, EMDR, and Guided Imagery can guide you through the clearing out that is necessary to move through life with excitement and passion regardless of the your age.

Chronic pain can interfere with the enjoyment of life. Learning how to clear out the emotional components of the pain can lessen the experience of the pain. Pain can be a message that something is wrong. Oftentimes chronic pain is the result of neural pathways being created when something was wrong but is no longer there. Helping the body change the neural pathways can decrease the perception of pain. The management, treatment, and control of chronic pain can be enhanced by the use of all four of the major ways that are listed below. Sometimes relief of chronic pain can be just a breath away. Learning how to use the breath to relieve pain is a great tool because your breath is always with you.

There are 4 major ways that change occurs.

One is affecting the way time, events, and relationships intersect with our consciousness, our concept of who we are.

Two is creating a shift in the personal mythology in the path that one takes.

Three is a deliberate and conscious ritual of connecting with the cell of the body through consciousness, with the goal of changing one's physiology.

Four is a self generated formal act that carries one into a sacred space (a space where the therapist and client have the intent to seek meaning and transcendence).

These 4 are paraphrased from Imagery for Getting Well by Deirdre Davis Brigham.
As she continues to talk about these she begins to use some of the same words that Ernest Rossi, PhD uses in his discussion about current mind/body research. He says that research from as far back of the 90's show that experiences of novelty, enrichment, exercise, both mental and physical turn activity dependent gene expression, that turns on brain plasticity, modulates the immune system, and activates stems cells throughout the body. He continues in his interview published by Psychotherapy.net in 2009 to talk about how therapeutic hypnosis activates these processes.

Therapeutic hypnosis can also be used to change the way that time, events, and relationship intersect with our consciousness and therefore our concepts of who we are. It can help to a shift in our personal mythology in determining how we move along our path. It is a ritual that can be used for the deliberate and conscious connecting with the cells in our body to change our physiology that leads to both physical and emotional healing. It can be used to touch into that sacred area that brings us to a sense of transcendence where change can more easily occur. One ways that this change occurs is in the creation of new neural networks that carry different messages to more life enhancing behaviors, thoughts, and feelings.
